About Us
Basedrop is a small New Zealand food business, operated by Kiwi Pak Limited from Hastings in Hawke's Bay.
Who we are
We are a registered food business under the Food Act 2014, registered with the Hastings District Council and verified by AsureQuality.
Where it comes from
The flavour concentrates are made by flavour houses overseas. We import them, blend and bottle them in Hastings, and label them there.
Every bottle we fill carries a batch number with the ingredient records held against it, so one bottle can be traced back to exactly what went into it. That is not a marketing line. It is the reason we can answer a question about one bottle rather than about a product in general.
What we sell
Flavour Drops
Our Jerk Soda Flavour Drops are concentrated, and built to read as one flavour. One drop per 150 ml goes into a drink you already have: a can, a coffee, a shake, soda water. The Jerk Soda Builder shows what goes with what.
Premixed Flavours
Diluted with vegetable glycerine, so they measure by the spoon instead of the drop. The glycerine carries a little sweetness of its own and a mouthfeel closer to sugar, which is what lets this tier scale into baking, icing and batch confectionery as well as a drink.
A Flavour Drop suits a single glass. A Premixed Flavour suits a bowl, a tray, or a batch instead.
Fanboys
Our own confectionery brand, made for us here in New Zealand. Five flavours, individually twist wrapped, 300 g to a bag. A free Fanboys sample goes in every order, while stocks last: two of each flavour. The 300 g bags are not in production yet, so they are here to be seen rather than bought, and each one says so. Try the samples and tell us what to change - it goes into the next batch. Fanboys is marketed by Te Wairua Limited, part of the same Hastings group as Kiwi Pak Limited, which operates this store.

What we will not tell you
That it is heat stable
It is not. Heat drives off the brightest part of a flavour, so it goes into a syrup once the syrup has cooled, and into a bake with the wet ingredients.
That a drop makes something sweet
There is no sugar and no sweetener in the bottle. A drop changes what a drink tastes of without touching how sweet it is: on a can the sweetness was settled when you chose the can, and on soda water it is yours to set.
